Something I've been doing too much recently, actually not enough of come to think of it, is spending hours and hours down the oval kicking the ball. Not since I was 13 have I had this much passion for the game I used to love so dearly. My father must have had serious questions to ask with my walls plastered with posters of star footballers. I wish I had the technology to travel back and watch me playing in my old gravel driveway. I'd spend 4-5 hours an afternoon kicking the ball, I'd wear through shoes in weeks on the surface and fence palings were repeatedly re-nailed together. The only thing stopping me was the dull ebb the lamplight gave me. I remember now times where I was caught playing out near the streetlight and on the tar road just to so I could kick for longer.
It's something I've taken an interest in these days. Photography from the favela's in Brazil and the street football in the cobblestone streets of France/Spain/Italy. The joy on these kids faces, spending hours and hours doing the same thing and loving it. It's not the same thing but it's a form of expression. Every time they touch the ball they craft their own way around the field, together. I know I was like that, childhood not wasted.
I've also seen a lot of stop motion video doing the rounds. Must take so much patience. Sometimes I wish I could express myself like that in art, but I always find it difficult or the muse to hard to find. I'm more at home physically moving around the football field or pushing myself on the track. Someday soon I'll find a way to record this.
So, new tracks I've just recently discovered tonight and in the past day or so.
The Bloody Beetroots 'Domino', I've enjoyed this and had it not been my lapse in internet would have downloaded the new EP of the same name from iTunes. I suggest you do. That's also a direct link you'll have to 'Save As...'
Alex Kidd 'Digital Abyss', epic. Right click...
